Local speciality, two contrasting root crops

I would like to introduce two unique root crops that I bought yesterday at farmers' market.

At first, I will show the Yurugi-turnip. I posted the scene where this turnip was hanging on a previous blog, but this time is a fresh turnip. The surface is bright red, but the inside is white. When pickled, even the white part turns red, creating a brightly colored pickle.

The second one is a blue-necked radish. Contrary to the previous turnip, the surface is white, but the inside is red. This radish is called watermelon radish in English but originated in China. The texture is slightly hard and crispy, and the spiciness is not very strong. I would like to to make bright red grated radish for dinner tonight.

This is grated radish made with red radish. The spiciness is not very strong. It felt mellow taste.
