Slime molds are Art.
When asked what art is, it's hard to explain.
One website explains that in Japan today, the distinction between "art," "fine arts," "arts," and "design" is often unclear, leading to the following confusion.
Fine arts(芸術) = something sophisticated, the work of professionally trained people
Arts(美術) = part of school education
Design(デザイン)= practical and commercial
Art(アート) = something free and unclear?
Three or four years ago, I watched NHK BS program that depicted the crawling and spreading of slime mold plasmodium (amoeba) as artwork, and when I rear slime mold (Physarum rigidum, Japanese name; Itamoji-hokori), sometimes the process of plasmodium spreading seems like an art.
