The odd scarlet colored fungus with white hair over a goblet-shaped cup
This is an update from the previous blog that described a small scarlet fungus called "white fox's sake cup". If I translate its Japanese name directly into English, it will look like this. Actually, its scientific name is Microstoma floccosum, a species of the Ascomycetes or sac fungus. Obviously not many other mushrooms look like this.
By the way, the title of the previous blog is "A small scarlet-colored fungus associating foxes drinking alcohol", dated March 4th.
Today, I walked around the forest like always, where I looked for mushrooms and slime molds. Actually, last year I could only notice this scarlet fungus in one place of the forest. But today I could find many of this fungus within the relatively narrow range at two other locations of the forest besides last year's site. Of course, I found this fungus in the same place where I noticed it last year.
I was so excited because this scarlet fungus was popping up here and there that I got caught up in taking pictures. That's a lot of excitement for such a tiny little mushroom!
I will show you the part of the photos I took there.
For your information, I use the picture of this scarlet fungus as the icon of my blog.
